Take your yoga on a hike

Doing yoga poses while on a hike has many benefits. Not only do you get to breathe the fresh, clean air of the great outdoors but you get a cardio workout, stretching, and strengthening done all in one. Going with friends makes it a fun and social practices, your able to play around with your balance by striking a pose on a rock, log, etc. You don't have to be advanced either, you can be brand to new yoga. It is also a wonderful way to balance your mind and be happy. Find your drishti on a beautiful flower or a magnificent tree! The way I decide what pose I do on my hike is by looking at the nature around me and imitating it with poses that have the same name or shape. Have fun, play around, and loosen up!

Tree Pose/Vrksasana Lotus Variation: How to

Vrksasana
Tree Pose Lotus Variation
~*~

1. Stand in Tadasana. Shift your weight slightly onto the left foot, keeping all four corners of the foot firm to the floor, and bend your right knee. Reach down with your right hand and grab your right ankle.
2. Draw your right foot up and place the foot in the crease of your left hip or as far up the thigh that is not painful; if possible, the bottom of the right foot facing toward the ceiling. The center of your pelvis should be directly over the left foot.
3. Make sure the pelvis is in a neutral position, with the hips parallel to the short end of the mat.
4. Engage your abs and you should feel a slight tuck of the tailbone. Firmly press the right foot against the inner thigh and resist with the outer left leg. Press your hands together in Anjali Mudra at heart center or above your head. Gaze softly at a fixed point in front of you(drishti).
5. On an exhale come back to Tadasana and repeat for the same length of time on the opposite leg.
